Diana Esplin

About
Hi! I'm Diana. I'm Blaine’s wife and a mom to 3 great kids. We have a beautiful "miracle baby" daughter and two boys whom we adopted from Ukraine in July, 2007. They rocked our world and turned it upside down! Out of necessity, I've had to learn much about a whole lot of subjects we never knew we were interested in just to survive.  I have a huge soft spot in my heart for other parents who are walking this journey with me.  As a family, we are on a quest for healing as we try to conquer PTSD, RAD, FASD, OCD, ADHD, etc. It's not an easy journey by any means, but we are working to become the people and the family God intended us to be...and we're trying to find serenity in the process.

Attachment 101
When:
Wednesday, September, 26 2012
10:00 AM to 11:30 AM (Mountain Time)
Show in my Timezone
Topic: Attachment
Description: We'll be talking all about human attachment and the critical role it plays, not only for adopted children but for all human beings. We'll discuss what attachment is (and is not), what healthy and secure attachment is and is not, and also the various attachment styles. And yes, of course, we can't talk about attachment without talking about RAD, so we'll spend a little time on that topic, too.
The Effects of Trauma on Brain Function (Day Session)
When:
Wednesday, June, 27 2012
10:00 AM to 11:30 AM (Mountain Time)
Show in my Timezone
Topic: The long term effects that exposure to trauma has on the brain, particularly when that exposure happens at a young age.
Description: We'll be talking about how and why exposure to trauma...any trauma (including "just" neglect and abandonment) leaves a permanent imprint on the brain. The still developing brains of children are particularly sensitive to it's impact. This is particularly true if the trauma was repeated or long lasting. We'll talk all about that and also shed some light on how adults are impacted by trauma. Finally, we'll talk about ways that the brain and body can be retrained to process input differently.
