The project presented in this webinar won best research poster at the 2017 MLP Summit. It will be presented by Nicole DePolo, an MD candidate at George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, investigated the impact of MLP services on a Length of Stay (LoS) variance population — patients who stay in hospitals longer than medically necessary due to lack of safe and appropriate discharge location. The researchers examined the patients’ demographics and barriers to discharge, assessed their health-harming legal needs via a standardized questionnaire; introduced MLP services to this new group, and assessed the efficacy of MLP intervention in addressing LoS variance. The webinar shares their findings, which support that LoS variance patients possess unmet civil legal needs, and that MLP can be an effective and appropriate intervention.
