Based on The Practitioner's Guide to Governance as Leadership: Building High-Performing Nonprofit Boards by Cathy A. Trower, this session will focus on the Governance as Leadership model, the three governance modes, and implications for transforming the board's operations and impact through this model.
Makiyah began her career in education reform as a Project Manager at the Leadership for Quality Education’s Charter School Resource Center in Chicago. Makiyah worked at the KIPP Foundation for three years before becoming Director of Development and eventually Managing Director of Finance and Operations at KIPP LEAD College Prep in Gary, Indiana. Prior to joining LAPCS, Makiyah served as the Founding Executive Director of Leading Educators, Greater New Orleans. A native of New Hampshire, Makiyah graduated magna cum laude from Wheaton College and earned a Master of Arts in Humanities from the University of Chicago.
