Food Power: Supporting fair pay and the real Living Wage
  • What can food partnerships do to improve wages locally, thereby helping tackle food poverty?
  • What are the benefits of becoming a Living Wage employer?
  • How can local groups work with employers and the council to incentivize better pay?
Employers and authorities can help people on a low income to eat well by paying and promoting the real Living Wage, currently £10.55 in London and £9.00 throughout the rest of the UK. The Living Wage is based on the cost of living and is voluntarily paid by +4,700 UK employers who believe a hard day's work deserves a fair day's pay.

We'll hear from the Living Wage Foundation about the benefits and process of accreditation, as well as how local groups can encourage councils and employers to join and promote it locally. Good Food Oxford will also speak about their research and action in this area, including partnering with the local council.
